You have shown strong commitment to improving quality of education in our country by prioritizing initiatives that address learning gaps. The implementation of the Career Progression System has the potential to bring significant improvements to the welfare of educators. As a teacher, I personally support all of your endeavors.
However, the implementation of the three-term school calendar has raised concerns among teachers. Instead of laying out concrete support systems, the success of the reform largely depends on the teachers’ implementation role. Your statement appears to direct that no additional workload given to teachers to ensure the expected success of the implementation.
DepEd policies such as DepEd Order No. 005, s. 2024 (Rationalization of Teacher Workload) and DepEd Order No. 002, s. 2024 (Removal of Administrative Tasks) are already in place and exercised in each school aimed at reducing teachers workload. What we need instead is a clear transition plans and adequate resources to support implementation in the school level. It is equally important to ensure that the policies of the reforms are properly cascaded and understood to avoid inconsistencies in implementation.
We are committed to making these reforms succeed, but success should be a shared responsibility across all levels of the system.
We remain hopeful that these reforms will genuinely supports teachers and not add further burden.
